     The First Coast Black Nurses Association was founded under the leadership of the late Dorothy Gaines Banks in February 2000; received acceptance letter from the National Black Nurses Association on May 24, 2000; was officially chartered by NBNA on August 18, 2000.

     Dorothy Gaines Banks graduated with honors from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in 1983, and was inducted in Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society. Dorothy went on to complete her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2002, and became a Certified Lactation Counselor in 2003.
