OUR ORGANIZATION
The First Coast Black Nurses Association (FCBNA) was organized under the leadership of Dorothy Gaines Banks in February 2000. A group of concerned Black nurses responded to a call to start a local chapter of the National Black Nurses Association in Jacksonville, FL. Some nurses were from the Naval Hospital, Shands, St. Vincents and Baptist Hospitals. The first meeting was held on February 24, 2000 at the Mandarin Library.
The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) officially chartered the First Coast Black Nurses Association chapter on August 18, 2000 at the national conference held in Washington, D.C.
